#1: Human Rights Complaints

A large unionized employer was experiencing a significant number of human rights complaints related to their short term disability program. The main issues raised related to the employer’s duty to accommodate and doctor’s note requirements for absences due to medical disability.

These and other human rights complaints were costing the company a significant amount of money due to legal costs and costs associated with employees off work for extended periods of time.

The Acclaim Solution

Working collaboratively with all partners in the development stage of program implementation allowed Acclaim to ensure all parties, including union representatives, understood how the program works including why specific information is requested and how it is used. In addition, union representatives were able to discuss their concerns and work together to come to an understanding of the benefits of the program to their membership. Ultimately, this resulted in fewer claims grieved, challenged and reduced costs to the employer.
